The introduction by Chief Harry Lafond sets the context for the stories collected from community members by Shirley Bear, George Sutherland, Carol Lafond, Carol Machiskinic, Marina Smokeyday. Christine Baldhead, Peter PeeAce, Gordon Royal and Leona Daniels. Very readable and informative, this is a resource of personal reflections that will contribute significantly to learning (Publisher).

Angelique: Buffalo Hunt (Our Canadian Girl)

In this historical fiction which is set in the West, ten-year old Angelique Dumas gets her first chance to be a part of the grown-up buffalo hunt.  She knows she will have new responsibilities and that it will be hard work. However, upon wandering off, she finds herself in the middle of a stampede and must apply all she knows in order to survive.

Bison Supermarket (Educational Kit)

​The beautiful package used for this kit is called a "parfleche", based on an ancient Aboriginal packaging method. This 6" x 9.5" parfleche contains a colourful 17" x 22" poster showing the ancient uses of bison. It also contains a 20-page activity booklet and a bison tracer (Publisher).

Hidden Buffalo

The 2004 Alberta Children’s Book of the year tells the story of a young boy sent to find buffalo.  Through a vision, he learns he must save the Cree people from starvation by finding the animals even though they have not been seen all summer long.  This traditional Cree story shares the power of prayer and the importance of the First Nations people’s determination to survive. ​
