Aboriginal Peoples: Building for the Future

This comprehensive text deals with an important and often understudied part of Canadian history and heritage. It focuses on all facets of Aboriginal culture, history, and challenges from the past to the present with a careful balance between brutal honesty and uplifting accounts of hope and perseverance. It includes biographies of key Aboriginal figures (i.e. Big Bear, Rosemarie Kuptana, Susan Aglukark) and examines current issues (i.e. Nunavut, Nisga, Oka and Ipperwash).

From Dream to Reality

Identity, culture, and livelihood are all intimately related to the lands First Nations occupy. Land for the exclusive use of First Nations of what is now Saskatchewan was promised when the Treaties were first entered into, yet fulfilling the debt of Treaty Land Entitlement has only recently been addressed head-on. From Dream to Reality explores how the issue of setting aside land for the exclusive use of First Nations is being addressed.
Created for the Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC), From Dream to Reality explores the story of Treaty Land Entitlement. Designed around the Native Studies 20 curriculum, this five-lesson resource and accompanying DVD feature handouts, background information, and activities suitable for senior Social Sciences.
