Socrative is a student response application which runs on tablets, smartphones, and laptops. Socrative captures results in real-time which allow teachers to instantly interact with the data to further students’ current understanding or to determine prior knowledge of content.
Teachers login through their device and select an activity which controls the flow of questions. Once an assessment has been created, students login with their device with a room number assigned to the teacher. Once students have entered, they can participate in the activities sent from the teacher. The activities include multiple choice, short answer, and true/false questions. Teachers can add images to quiz questions and answers to free response questions. The questions can be answered anonymously or with student names. Socrative will aggregate and grade pre-made activities, and then email the teacher reports. Teachers have access to live results which facilitates instantaneous student progress data. Teachers can create questions for students to answer during a “Space Race” where students answer as individuals or part of a team and try to finish the race first. Socrative also features “Exit Ticket” for a quick formative assessment of student understanding. Teachers can send follow-up activities to gage student comprehension. Student responses are visually represented for multiple choice, true/false and Short Answer questions. For pre-planned activities, teachers can view reports online as a Google spreadsheet or as an emailed Excel file. |

Getting Started
- Sign up for a free Socrative account.
- Note your Room Number. This is how your students or colleagues will enter your activities. Students or colleagues do not need a separate account or login credentials.
- Test Socrative’s demo quiz. Run this quiz as student/participant paced and teacher paced to view the difference. Remember that two devices are needed to see the effects of the activity in real time.
- Create your own quiz using a mixture of multiple choice and short answer questions. Experiment with feedback explanations if desired.
