NearPod is an “all-in-one” presentation and polling application for classroom and other large learning environments. NearPod provides the ability to upload existing presentations as well as create new ones from scratch. Interactive features such as question/answer polling, surveys, and drawings are easily added and the entire pacing of the presentation is controlled from the teacher’s device.
There are two parts of Nearpod. One part is the app or extension in which presentations are displayed and where participants will access the presentations while it is running. The other part is the content tool where presentations are created, uploaded, modified, and managed to run through the device. Nearpod provides samples of presentations in their Store. Downloading and viewing a commercially created presentation provides a sense of the available features, such as polls, quizzes, short answer questions, videos, and drawing capabilities for annotation and labelling. Presentations can also be created from scratch or an existing presentation can be uploaded from Powerpoint, Keynote, Google Drive, or other programs. The original presentation must be converted to a PDF file and then upload to Nearpod. Powerpoint slides can be saved as .JPG or .PNG files which are accepted by Nearpod as image uploads. To deliver a presentation, the Nearpod app must be opened. When the presentation is launched, a PIN code will appear. The participants use this code to access the session. Participants do not need a separate account or login credentials to access the presentations. Once a presentation is finished, a report can be sent via email or the data can be accessed directly through the web interface. |
