Hopscotch is an iPad application dedicated to teaching students the coding language. Hopscotch’s functionality is an “easy-to-use visual programming language” that enables students to create their own games, animations. stories, interactive art, and apps.
Hopscotch simplifies complex programming by letting users drag and drop intuitive blocks of code. The quirky characters make the app particularly appealing to students. Through trial, error, and constant iteration, students discover how to manipulate the code, thinking critically and creatively, to make these characters perform a multitude of actions. Individually or in cooperation with others via the share feature, students develop understanding of programming, design, and other computer applications. Projects can be saved or shared with peers via email. All projects and those shared with them are stored on the iPad and accessible at any time, perfect for use for group and individual work. |
