30Hands

Back to Ed Tech Tools
30hands Mobile is an innovative storytelling app that allows users to easily create narrated stories or presentations based on photos, images, drawings using an iPad, iPhone or iPod. 30Hands allows a user to make pictures, annotate them, record a voice explainer and then packages it all into a video. Its simple interface an ease of use make it great for young students.

30hands Mobile focuses on the power of storytelling and iterative creativity. Like pages in a book, photos or images are dragged around the desktop into the order of the story. Images can be added from the Camera Roll, from Dropbox, or taken with the camera on your device. Multiple images may be selected at once, and can be rearranged. Audio can be recorded over each image; however presentations can be made with or without audio. The story or presentation can be published to the device’s photo area for sharing to YouTube or uploading to Drive, Dropbox, etc. or uploaded to a 30hands Cloud collaborative learning site.

30hands Mobile is digital storytelling app, but it is an equally capable presentation app. It is available in two two priced tiers: 30hands Starter for $3.99, and 30hands Pro for $9.99.
Educational uses:
  • Demonstrate a presentation that represents their understanding of: comprehension of read text, performed experiment, or steps to solve a problem.
  • Create a narrated storyboard.
  • Present a slide narration spoken in the language they are learning.
  • Create a trailer to preview a read book.
  • Showcase a used reading strategy that helped comprehend a text. Some strategies that could be presented include text annotations, highlighting, character mapping, or double-entry journals.

Getting Started

  1. Download the app.
  2. Experiment with creating a narrated slideshow presentation.
  3. Have you, your colleagues, or your student created a narrated slideshow presentation.
  4. Save the presentation and save to the camera roll or to 30hands.  If saving to the camera roll, options for sharing are maximized, and include email, posting to YouTube, and saving to iCloud among other options.
